Happy Monday (Ugh.). I hope that you all had the most wonderful weekend. I am actually still recovering from mine. You see, ever since I had kids, my weekends are no longer my own. It's amazing how these little peeps who walk like drunk midgets and can't wipe their own butts yet can have such packed social schedueles. Not that I'm complaining, as I wouldn't change it for the world. But this Saturday especially was crazy busy; I had to fit in a morning of grocery shopping and kids activities, followed by a baby shower in the afternoon and a dinner party for 12 chez moi in the early evening. How the hell was I going to get everything done? And more importantly what the hell was I going to wear?
And then the lightbulb went on in my head (which, doesn't happen very often by the way). I grabbed my Diane Von Furstenberg Manette dress (shown here) and decided that I would work it 3 different ways; each look tailored to reflect the activity in question. As I was unable to take actual shots of my outfits on Saturday I will do my best to do a re-enactment for you. So here goes:
Saturday: 9:00am
Dress: DVF Bag: Balenciaga Jacket: Mackage Shoes: Geox |
I swear, I must have been on crack when I signed my son up for French tutoring at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Add in an hour of grocery shopping, a tiny tigers lesson at the Tae Kwon do studio and a stop by Kumon to pick up some extra math homework and by noon I was ready for a nap. As I wanted to incorporate my DVF dress into my morning routine, I decided to keep it as casual as possible by throwing on a neutral colored Moto jacket (seen also here) and a pair of comfy, casual shoes.
Saturday: 1:30 pm
Dress: DVF Necklace: Tiffany's Bag: Chanel Shoes: Geox |
After my morning of being a chauffeur to the little ones I had to haul ass downtown to the swanky Four Seasons hotel for the baby shower of one of my besties. We had an afternoon of high tea planned, a few hours of doing nothing but laughing, gossiping and of course, filling our faces with fancy sandwiches and litres and litres of tea. For this event I stripped off the moto jacket, added a pair of fun heels and of course I had to bring Mademoiselle Chanel out to play.
Saturday: 5:20 pm
Dress: DVF Scarf: Alexander McQueen |
After high tea, I had to drive me and my food baby home, and of course traffic was a bitch and I arrived 20 minutes late to my own dinner party. How embarrassing, but very thankful I had hubby to help greet the guests, prepare the appetizers and take care of the kids in my absence. He's a god (he didn't ask me to type this in, i swear!). As I was already home I didn't really feel the need to get dressed up again but thought that it would be fun to throw on a scarf and really play hostess 'with the mostess'. This Alexander McQueen scarf is just the perfect item to throw on when I have like two seconds to spare. And you'll notice that I'm not wearing shoes. My husband calls this my 'barefoot in the kitchen' look :)
So, as you can see, my dress and I really pulled triple duty here this weekend. I really don't understand why they would pay Sarah Jessica Parker millions of dollars to star in 'I don't know how she does it' when they could have just asked me to do it for free :) Hehe, is anyone else looking forward to seeing that movie?
Now it's your turn- what item in your closet would you consider a triple threat (meaning that it could take you from morning, noon and night?) I would love to hear.
And of course, thanks so much for reading. I hope that you have a great Tuesday!

OK, this is a really, really, really great post! So genius to show wearing something several ways. I have yet to master this! You crack me up with your mama stress - I feel you! This has totally inspired me to think of something I own that does this for me. I had a similar weekend and was thinking of posting about a jumpsuit I found in my car that I was going to get rid of, but was so happy to have it to change into that I decided I should probably always have a jumpsuit in my car! haha... But really, it makes more sense to have one outfit go several ways. Thanks for the inspiration. xx
Fabulous as always!A black dress really is an essential in every wardrobe!!

Wow. You have been busy, but fabulously so.
OMG, you are a super mom! I can't believe you managed to pull off such an action packed day. If I even attempted half of that, I would have passed out midday. Great DVF dress, you look fantastic!

LOLOLOL!!! You never fail to crack me up! Too bad you live on the other side of the world. We would've so much fun shopping and eating. Sans kids. We can toss them in the zoo together with the animals (seeing that mine behaves like a monkey most of the time)
I totally bow down to you!!!! What an awesome post Sharon, absolutely loved it! LOL you never cease to amaze me, what a great dress that works TRIPLE duty! I will have to brainstorm and see if I have any dresses or outfits like that in my closet!

I canter help but laugh at your first paragraph about life with kids. Our lives totally transform, I mean. Totally busy, crazy, hectic but filled with a new meaning in life.

This post made me laugh so much! I love how you used props to recreate the events LOL! Your skull scarf is gorgeous - the perfect touch to your evening outfit.
OMG seriously all that in 1 day??? I don't know how you did it and a dinner party for 15? The last time I did something like that I was getting ready ALL day and didn't even leave my house. I am super impressed you did all of that and I love your mcqueen scarf, what would I wear for a triple threat day? Probably my ivory wool suit, with and without the jacket and diff jewelry ;)
Your pictures and words are so funny. I love how you describe your kids as drunk midgets having packed social life. Got me all cracked up.
I think you did brilliantly in the triple threat. I'm sorry I've got none to share.

I would have called it quits at around 11am! ;o)
I don't know if I have a triple threat outfit, but if so, I think it would definitely be some sort of knit dress.
ahhh kumon... oh how i dreaded going when i was a kid - especially on saturdays! love the photos of you with that big pot! LOL. not sure if i ever answered your question but yes i did pick up the studded vintage coach bag. that reminds me - need to use it! xx
You are a real life star. Wow!
I read the book about a year back and am now waiting with bated breath for the movie :-)
Dude, you are an effing GOD when it comes to styling. I mean ... Wearing the same dress in three different ways on the same day??? Come on! I'm impressed. You have serious skills, lady. It doesn't even look like the same dress! Now that is a good investment piece.
