OOTD- A McQueen kind of day

Hello friends,

The house is empty tonight. There are no sounds of little pitter patters up and down the stairs. No screams of 'Mommy, Little K is drinking from the toilet again' or 'Mommy, i picked up your hair again- it's disgusting!'. The kids are tucked away at the grandparents for a few days while I am left here, with a slightly broken heart.

I miss those little buggers.

But then, it hits me. No kids = No wiping poopy bums. No little cranky people giving mama attitude. And, not having to watch if Goofy found Daisy's "triangle bush" on the Mickey Mouse club (true episode- swear to God!)

And you know what else this means?

DATE NIGHT :)

Alright, on to the good stuff. So what did I wear?

As date night fell on a Monday, I didn't have much time to get ready after work so when time is of the essence, I rely on my fail-safe outfit- a black dress with a few statement accessories. And hello, what better way to make a statement then this vibrant, gorgeous scarf from Alexander Mcqueen! I purchased this scarf a while back in New York city, and have to stop myself from wearing every day! I love people's reactions when they discover that the cute little faces on my scarf are actually skulls, which, I do find quite fitting as I am in a career where I deal with dead people. This scarf is so light and fun, and completely versatile. Here are a few different ways to wear it:

With the addition of Mademoiselle Chanel, a few other pieces and my Geox flats I was ready to go out for a night on the town. Or, in our case, a three hour meal at Miller Tavern where I didn't have to eat over the sink (like I normally do at home) and a very romantic rest of the evening at home watching very intelligent t.v like Bachelor Pad. Is anyone else watching it? You can admit it to me :)

So to the mothers out there, do you and your hubbies still go on date nights? And do you end up talking the whole time about the kids like hubby and I do?

OOTD- A little bit graphic

So this is a look that I've been sporting a few times to work. I really love, LOVE this wrap dress. The pattern is a bit bold, and definitely not for the shy. But add some red lips (Nars Cruella lip color, to be exact), and for me it's just another day at the office:

And as you can see I decided to debut Mademoiselle Caviar Chanel with this outfit. I was really unsure of how this bag would work with my every day wardrobe as I am not one of those people who will buy an investment piece and shove it at the back of my closet. However, I have already taken the bag out many times; with the kids, out to dinner and even (the horror), on the subway. So, what can I say, I'm smitten:

My husband always teases me, that there is no way that the outfits I choose can be that comfortable. But they are. Given my crazy, busy lifestyle, I always choose pieces that fit well and aren't high maintenance or too trendy. In fact, this outfit is so comfy that it's something that I can, say, water the front yard in:

My significant other deems this next shot as inappropriate. I, on the other hand, have no clue what he is talking about:

Daisy Dukes at the B.B.Q

Hello Friends,

So unfortunately I can count the summer weekends left on my hand. That sucks. So I have made a point to really get out there and enjoy what's left of this warm weather, and what better way to to celebrate the middle of August then going to a family B.B.Q:

Top: Boa
Shorts: Fidelity Snapdragon
Shoes: Mephisto Black Patent Herna Sandals

When I look at these pics, i think, wow, something's missing, and then I realize that I'm not wearing black! Hallelujah! I really love the pattern on this top as it's colorful, cheery and the detailing of the sleeves gives it that special 'oomph'.

And those shorts starting off as full length Fidelity jeans, but because I was constantly on my knees (insert sex joke here) they ripped. I decided to salvage them as best I could by cutting them and now they work wonderfully as shorts. My husband calls them my daisy dukes, which I protest because I don't think that they are that short, do you?

And the shoes, let's talk about the shoes for a second:

These are my one of my favorite pairs of shoes, great for running around in with the kids and enough bling to spice up an otherwise boring 'mom' outfit. And they are the most comfortable shoes that I will ever own. Mephisto sandals (made in France) are known to be the sexy 'orthotic' shoe. I bet that you never thought that would ever hear the word 'sexy and 'orthotic in the same sentence, huh? So if you have flat feet/bad knees/ bad back like I do (yes I'm old) these will feel like you are walking on a cloud. And if rhinestones are not your thing they have so many different styles that you can find here.

This stuff rocks: Get Luscious lips by Fresh and Yves St. Laurent

My dear friend Helen emailed me recently and asked me to recommend a few good lip products suitable for her crazy/busy mommy life. Easy enough, I reached into my purse and pulled out these two lip goodies:

So let's being with the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment:

Fresh Lip Treatment in Rose, Available at Sephora for $25 CAD

This is one stick of pure yumminess. I was skeptical about trying it as it was pricey for something that looked like a 'glorified' blistex. However, after seeing it recommended by Rachel Bilson in a recent InStyle magazine I was extremely curious and decided to take the plunge. And am I glad that I did. This product not only hydrated and plumped up my lips, but it tasted so sweet (like sugar) and was perfect for refreshing my lip color during the day. It also contains SPF 15 and the packaging is super cute. The color that I chose is 'Rose', which left just a tiny hint of color, like a blush tone on my lips. It comes in 4 shades (including a clear one) and you can find more information about the product here.

And now, for something more splurge-worthy, here's the YSL Sheer Volupte Candy:

'Wow' is the word that comes to mind when describing this lipgloss!!! Let's talk the packaging first. It is SO.BEAUTIFUL, don't you agree? There is also a mirror on the top of the cap which is so useful when i'm applying this in public. And the product itself does not disappoint. I am a huge fan of YSL lipsticks, I find them quite pigmented and long-lasting, and this gloss/balm is no different. It comes in 6 shades (that you can find here) and is known to be a 'build-able' gloss. The shade that I chose was more of a 'cherry pink', and the more that I applied the product, the more intense the color. I love this gloss as it hydrated my lips but also left a nice stain that lasted during the day (only if I re-applied it every few hours though). Plus, it also has SPF 15 and tastes just like succulent mango. It's the perfect product for when I don't have time to put my 'face' on but still need a little sumthin' to brighten up my look (as seen in the below pic):

The Beach House

Hello Friends:

So we finally made it to the cottage this week:

And even though cottage country frowns upon fashion labels, I still wanted to glam it up, just a tiny, tiny bit:

So what does a city girl do for a week on the lake?

Well, as I have two young boys and a very active husband, fishing seemed to be the activity of the week. As I am always up for being a good sport, I decided to try it:

Just in case you're wondering, I didn't catch anything. It didn't help that I was using my son's Diego fishing rod.

Then, I thought that it would be fun to chop up some wood for the campfire later that night:

And when I needed a time-out from the kids, I was found relaxing in the sunroom with an intellectually stimulating magazine:

And when I wasn't fishing/chopping wood/ reading thought-provoking material I was out with the camera snapping away at my adorable subjects:

This was taken during an impromtu game of hide and seek. Don't you love the linens in the background? Classy!

Every single kid that I know loves to blow these. There is such happiness found in the smallest things.

I want to first thank you for all of your comments regarding my stupid bruised toe and our cottage rental nightmare that I posted last week. I really appreciate your support and absolutely love you all!

So that's why I am about to share this next photo with you. Last week, when the family and I were driving up Yonge street my husband all of the sudden said 'Holy sh*t- that's perfect for you' and he pointed to the car infront of us. I was wondering what the hell he was talking about when I looked up and saw this:

OMG... was this God's way of telling me that I am a shopoholic? That is one of the most awesome licence plates that I have ever seen, don't you agree?

Shoe Porn (Not for the weak)

Last night did start innocently enough. My friend Helen and I were at our friend Vickie's house for some Tuesday post-work gossip. After Vickie had put her son to bed, she asked us in the most enthusiastic voice if we would like to see some of her designer shoe collection. Of course we said yes, but we had no idea what was in store for us. Lucky me, I had my iphone to capture all of the naughtiness that was to happen right before our eyes. 

The first pair she tried on was a pair of incredibly mouthwatering Sergio Rossi Pumps:

Eeeeeeekkkk..... aren't these gorgeous? They are perfect for the office and are all around sexy! Plus, I love the color- very unexpected (they're like a deep brownish red?). I would practically strip for these shoes (well, not really, but you get the point of how absolutely wonderful they are!)

Next up, are these beauties from Jimmy Choo:

Holy sh*t! These are real stunners, they aren't called 'the up in the air' shoes for nothing? Hehe. Just looking at them made my heart beat a little faster. They aren't really for the shy, but nothing says wild and fun like black patent and toe cleavage. I want to borrow them for a sexy night out, but doubt that they would ever leave the bedroom. Oh no, TMI???

And to keep things even more interesting, here is a pair of sky-scraping Brian Atwood heels:

I don't think that I've ever seen a Brian Atwood shoe in real life until now. I love the extra punches of color on the platform and are the perfect alternative to a leg extension (which, people in China actually get done- for real!). Vickie did mention that these were the least comfortable of all of her heels, but dammit, sometimes we all gotta suffer for fashion.

And last but not least, the shoe climax of the evening goes to:

F*ck me! It's the bow chic satin sandal from Roger Vivier!!!!!! This is the same shoe that has been seen on celebrities like Leighten Meester and Claire Danes. When I first saw the red box I swear that I stopped breathing for almost 2 minutes. This shoe does evoke that type of reaction. And...if you look closely, you will see that each shoe has a thorn sticking out of it's stiletto heel. Is that genius or what? Stunning, absolultely stunning.
